Hollywood, California – December 16, 2011 – The founding members of The Beach Boys, one of the world's most legendary bands in popular music history, will reunite for a global 50th Anniversary CELEBRATION in 2012. Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks will come together for a new studio album and commemorative catalog releases with Capitol/EMI and a 50-date international tour to begin in April with a headlining performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival ("Jazz Fest") as well as other exciting events to be announced.

Brian Wilson says, "This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again."

Mike Love says, "We got together at Capitol Records and re-recorded 'Do It Again.' Brian and I wrote that song which went to number 1 in Great Britain, Australia and elsewhere some 44 years ago. Brian paid me a compliment saying, 'How can a guy sound that great so many years later?' Later on, while working out some harmonies on a new song Brian had written, I got a chance to return the compliment. It was a thrill to be around a piano again with Brian, Alan and Bruce and experience firsthand the brilliance of Cousin Brian's gift for vocal arrangements. I am very much looking forward to David Marks joining us and thrilling with his surf guitar licks. Music has been the unifying and harmonizing fact of life in our family since childhood. It has been a huge blessing that we have been able to share with the world. Wouldn't It Be Nice to Do It Again? Absolutely!"

Al Jardine says, "The Beach Boys were recently inducted into the California Hall of Fame. From our humble beginnings as brothers, cousins and friends, we have been honored to sing the praises of California, and I'm really excited for our fans to be able to see us again in concert on the world stage, and to celebrate our 50th anniversary together with a new studio album."

Bruce Johnston says, "I will be looking forward to singing Brian Wilson's melodies and Mike Love's lyrics once again in concert with many of the original band members, but imagine what we all could come up with vocally in a recording studio atmosphere under Brian's musical direction."

David Marks says, "I'm really looking forward to celebrating this important milestone in The Beach Boys' history with the other guys, and with Capitol Records - where it all began 50 years ago. It means a lot to me that we can all reunite and pay tribute to the fans who have kept the music alive."

The Beach Boys have already recorded several songs for their new album, to be released in 2012 by Capitol/EMI, with more tracks to be recorded before its completion. The as-yet-untitled album, the first to feature all of the band's surviving original members in decades, is being produced by Brian Wilson and executive produced by Mike Love.

The Beach Boys and Capitol/EMI have also teamed up for a 50th Anniversary campaign spotlighting the band's entire catalog, with several new commemorative releases planned for 2012, including a new hits collection and a career-spanning box set.

Founded in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys were originally comprised of the three teenaged Wilson brothers: Brian, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine. In 1962, neighbor David Marks joined the group for their first wave of hits on Capitol Records, leaving in late 1963, and in 1965, Bruce Johnston joined the band when Brian Wilson retired from touring to focus on writing and producing records for the group. For five decades, America's first pop band to reach the 50 year milestone has recorded and performed the music that has become the world's favorite soundtrack to summer.

The Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin' Safari, that same year. The album spent 37 weeks on the Billboard chart, launching the young group known for its shimmering vocal harmonies and relaxed California style into international stardom. The Wilson/Love collaboration resulted in many huge international chart hits, and under Brian Wilson's musical leadership, the band's initial surf-rock focus was soon broadened to include other themes, making The Beach Boys America's preeminent band of the 1960s.

In 1966, The Beach Boys were one of the first bands to found its own record label with the launch of Brother Records, Inc. (BRI), with the band's members as its shareholders and Capitol Records as its distribution partner. BRI continues to manage The Beach Boys' intellectual property, including the band's catalog with Capitol/EMI and other label partners, as well as its name, logos, image and likeness.

The Beach Boys continue to hold Billboard / Nielsen SoundScan's record as the top-selling American band for albums and singles, and they are also the American group with the most Billboard Top 40 chart hits (36). 'Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys' is fast approaching triple-Platinum sales status, and 'The SMiLE Sessions,' released to worldwide critical acclaim in November, has been heralded as 2011's #1 Reissue of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and recipients of The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award, The Beach Boys are an American institution that is iconic around the world.

BRIAN WILSON SAYS BEACH BOYS REUNION ALBUM SOUNDS 'MELLOW'

Brian Wilson is riding high on two new releases -- his new covers album, In The Key Of Disney, along with the pop-rock holy grail box set of the Beach Boys' Smile Sessions. In an exclusive interview, we asked Wilson about that other collection he's been working on -- the long-awaited Beach Boys reunion album. Wilson has recently been laying down preliminary tracks for the still unnamed 50th anniversary project -- which kicked off last summer with him, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston teaming up with members of Wilson's and Love's respective touring bands to re-record the Beach Boys' classic 1968 hit single "Do It Again."

We asked Wilson if he was happy with the way the group gelled in the studio after 15 years apart: "Oh yeah, I was thrilled! Not one of those guys needs any work -- they're all great. Yeah, they're all good."

Wilson was asked how many tracks he's been working on for the upcoming Beach Boys project: "About six. It's going to be mellow. It's a mellow, mellow album. A lot of background parts -- y'know, a lot of background harmonies. Uh. . . my friend Jeff, one of my bandmembers, Jeff (Foskett), is singing backgrounds."

When asked if the album would be relying on re-recordings of other Beach Boys classics, Wilson said: "New stuff. I would like to advance on to new stuff. I wanna do rock n' roll. I'd like to do rock n' roll."

Producer Joe Thomas is heading up the 50th anniversary project for the band and previously produced the Beach Boys' last studio album, 1996's Stars & Stripes Vol. 1, along with Wilson's 1998 solo set, Imagination. Wilson told us that he's thrilled to be back working with Thomas behind the boards: "It's a great pleasure to work with the guy. He's such a great genius."

The new five-disc box set, called The Smile Sessions, features a full-on construction of the Beach Boys' version of Smile -- based on Wilson's 2004 "finished" version -- which was compiled by the project's producers and band archivists; Alan Boyd and Mark Linett. The set also features four more discs of session highlights and album outtakes.

Alan Boyd directed the band's 1998 documentary Endless Harmony and Grammy Award winner Linett is the man responsible for engineering Brian Wilson Presents Smile, producing and mixing the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds box set, and overhauling the group's entire catalogue over the past 20 years.

Smile, which was originally slated for release in January 1967, included such legendary songs as, "Our Prayer," "Heroes And Villains," "Wonderful," "Cabin Essence," "Wind Chimes," "Vegetables," "Good Vibrations," "I'm In Great Shape," "Child Is The Father Of Man," "Holidays," "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow," "Do You Like Worms," "Love To Say Da Da," and "Surf's Up," among others.

The Smile Sessions is available in both two-disc, and five-disc versions. The expanded, boxed edition of The Smile Sessions is also released digitally. The boxed set also includes a double vinyl LP set, a poster, and two seven-inch vinyl singles.

Hace meses Brian canceló los últimos conciertos de su gira europea porque tenia que estar ineludiblemente en Los Ángeles a finales de septiembre, pues bien el pasado día 29 de septiembre un DJ de Los Ángeles, Joey Scoleri publico en tu cuenta de twitter un par de comentarios, en los que decía que había estado en los estudios angelinos de "Oceanway" donde había estado escuchando a los Beach Boys con Brian Wilson. Incluso colgó una foto junto a Brian. De momento nadie ha confirmado nada por supuesto, parece que todo esto se esta llevando con gran secretismo, aunque siempre hay alguien que se le escapa algo, como en este caso parece que ha sido el tal Scoleri. estaremos atentos a posibles novedades.

1966-’67 Album Sessions Compiled for 2CD and Digital Packages and Deluxe, Expanded Box Set;

The news came fast and furious today when Capitol/EMI made the annoucement that SMiLE would be getting the "all star" treatment, with an overwhelming wealth of information.

Although the mythical album has a storied background, this Holy Grail of releases has the full participation of original Beach Boys Al Jardine, Mike Love and Brian Wilson. Capitol/EMI has, for the first time, collected and compiled the band’s legendary 1966-’67 sessions for the never-completed SMiLE album. The announced release dates for the multiple sets are November 1 in the U.S., and October 31 internationally.

Initially titled Dumb Angel, Brian Wilson had The Beach Boys recording a bounty of songs and drafts between spring 1966 to May of 1967 for an album that was intended to follow the band’s 1966 masterpiece, Pet Sounds.

Wilson was working with lyricist Van Dyke Parks. Together, the pair set their sites on creating a true musical exploration of the white man's movement to the Wild West, and the deconstruction of the American Indian. The subject matter was so vast that the Beach Boys had difficulty understanding the overall vision. Vegetables, animal sounds, the elements and humor all became a part of the SMiLE vernacular, leaving the album in brilliant pieces of recordings and completed works of pure wonderment. By any standard, SMiLE represented psychedlic Americana agriculture at its best.

Ultimately the album was shelved due to several factions that will be explored in the December edition of Goldmine Magazine (issue #808, street date, Nov. 1), and in the "all SMiLE" special edition of Endless Summer Quarterly (available in November).

The SMiLE Sessions’ 2CD lift-top box, double vinyl LP, digital album, and iTunes LP formats feature an approximation of what was intended to be the completed SMiLE album, compiled from The Beach Boys’ original session masters. Additional session highlights and bonus tracks are also included, including demos and stereo mixes.

An expanded, boxed edition of The SMiLE Sessions will also be released physically and digitally, featuring the main SMiLE album tracks, plus four CDs of additional audio from the legendary sessions, a double vinyl LP set, and two 7” vinyl singles. The deluxe box will also contain a 60-page hardbound book with rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia from The Beach Boys’ archive and newly-written essays by Beach Boys Al Jardine, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, and Bruce Johnston, as well as by Beach Boys historian and author Domenic Priore and many other inner-circle participants.

The multiple collections have been produced by Brian Wilson, Mark Linett, Alan Boyd and Dennis Wolfe in Los Angeles. The SMiLE Sessions’ physical and digital configurations include an assembled collection of core session tracks, while the box set delves much deeper into the sessions, adding early song drafts, alternate takes, instrumental and vocals-only mixes, and studio chatter. The SMiLE Sessions provides a "fly on the wall" experience as Brian Wilson leads the way guiding his fellow Beach Boys, singer Mike Love, drummer Dennis Wilson, lead guitarist Carl Wilson, rhythm guitarist Al Jardine, and newest member Bruce Johnston (who'd replaced Brian Wilson in the touring group during 1965), through the legendary sessions.

Artwork for all of The SMiLE Sessions’ physical and digital configurations has been created with and inspired by Beat-Pop artist Frank Holmes’ original 1967 LP sleeve art and booklet designs intended for the SMiLE album.

Also accompanying this release, The Beach Boys have generated an official music video contest for "Good Vibrations" and "Heroes And Villains" by partnering with Tongal, the leading creative social platform. In Tongal’s first-ever music video initiative, fans can now collaborate to create the official music videos, as the project begins today (August 30) on Tongal.com, and consists of two phases - a concept phase and a video phase. The concept phase calls for fans to conceptualize the music video for “Heroes and Villains” or “Good Vibrations” in 250 characters or less. In the video phase, Tongal users can select one of the five winning concepts from phase one and produce a music video based on it. Cash prizes and special items, including an autographed custom Hobie longboard, will be awarded to the top submissions.

Beginning with “Good Vibrations,” The Beach Boys’ best-selling record in a long string of hits, Brian Wilson had begun to construct songs in a modular form, crafting individual sections that would later be edited together to form a coherent whole. In several intense bursts of creative energy, Wilson, drawing on the talents of the finest studio musicians in Los Angeles and utilizing the best studio facilities available on any given day, laid down dozens of musical fragments, all designed to fit together in any number of possible combinations. No one had done this before in pop music, and his next endeavor would be an album-length version of this unique and luxurious songwriting parlance: SMiLE.

In addition to this release, The Beach Boys and Capitol/EMI will celebrate the band’s 50th Anniversary in 2012. Plans for commemorative releases and other anniversary activities will be announced.

The Beach Boys, Madrid, 15-07-2011 - La Crónica

Tras tres horas de viaje en AVE, llego a Atocha a las 13:30. A las 14:00 ya estoy en el hotel. Rápidamente me dirijo al Hotel NH Ribera del Manzanares donde se hospedan nuestros héroes, y donde ya hace rato que varios compañeros del foro están haciendo guardia. Me dicen que han podido hablar con Christian y les ha dicho que Mike está en otro hotel. Decidimos ir a comer. De camino al restaurante nos topamos con Scott, que seguramente viene de la tintorería, ya que va cargado con varias camisas. Rápidamente reconoce a uno de nosotros. Nos atiende con amabilidad y además nos avisa de que Bruce estará en el NH Ribera a las 19:00.

Tras una buena comida, volvemos al hotel para descanar y luego seguimos haciendo guardia en el NH Ribera. Van llegando más miembros del foro. Mientras estamos tomando un refresco, vemos desde el bar al mismísimo Bruce en el hall, que parece que nos ha visto. Al llegar al hall Bruce ha desaparecido, pero acto seguido vuelve otra vez, cargado con una percha y vestido con camiseta y gorra blancas y pantalones cortos. Nos dice que en ese momento no puede hablar. Se dirige a la recepción donde habla unos instantes con una recepcionista del hotel. Una vez acabada la gestión se acerca a nosotros. Lo primero que nos dice es que apaguemos las cámaras. Una vez apagadas entablamos una amena y distendida conversación mientras nos va firmando autógrafos en todos los discos de los que vamos provistos. Entre otras cosas nos habla de que el Pet Sounds hay que escucharlo en mono, ya que Brian tenía problemas de oído, y si lo escuchas en estéreo te estas perdiendo algunos sonidos. También nos habla de cuando fue a Londres a presentar el disco a Lennon y McCartney, de las reacciones de éstos al escuchar el disco, y de los trajes blancos que ambos llevaban. Como suele ser habitual reniega de sus discos en solitario, nos dice en castellano que sólo los hacía por dinero. Cuando le preguntamos si puede haber una reunión de los Beach Boys y si se van a grabar temas nuevos, nos dice que es posible, pero no se muestra muy entusiasmado.

Es tarde. Las furgonetas ya están esperando. La organización apremia. El resto de la banda y el resto de comitiva que les acompaña va saliendo a la calle. Es hora de despedirse de Bruce, no sin antes hacernos las correspondientes fotos en él. Una de las cuales nos la hace el bueno de Tim, para que podamos salir todos en la foto. Suben todos a las furgonetas y se van para el escenario.

Aún emocionados por el encuentro con Bruce, nos dirigimos hacia la Casa de Campo paseando tranquilamente, mientras vamos hablando distendidamente sobre todo lo referente al grupo. Una vez en la entrada del recinto donde se va a realizar el concierto nos encontramos con mas foreros y también conocemos a otros aficionados llegados de todos los rincones de España. Un forero nos comenta que también ha podido hablar con Bruce y que éste le ha comentado que para el año que viene tienen previstas cuatro fechas en España. Veremos si es cierto o sólo era una declaración de intenciones.

Como aún falta un rato para que abran las puertas y estamos algo sedientos, nos dirigimos en masa a unos chiringuitos relativamente cercanos a tomar un refrigerio. Al volver alguien grita: ¡¡Que os atropella Mike!!, mientras nos adelanta un imponente Mercedes, con Mike de copiloto. Al unísono todos nos ponemos a correr para que no se nos escape en la entrada al recinto. Llegamos justo cuando baja del automóvil. El propio Mike abre la puerta trasera del vehículo de donde sale su hija pequeña Ambha, con un vestido realmente espectacular, y una amiga de ésta. Mike, que va vestido con americana, tejanos y una gorra blanca, se nos acerca sin más dilación y empieza a firmar todos los autógrafos que le pedimos. Incluso algún afortunado consigue hacerse una foto con él. Cuando alguien le sugiere que vuelva a trabajar con Brian, Mike pone cara de sorprendido, pero unos instantes después responde que están hablando de ello. Se acaban la firmas y Mike entra al backstage.

Las puertas ya están abiertas, así que nos ponemos en la cola y accedemos al recinto. Como aún falta un rato para el comienzo del concierto, nos dirigimos a la zona del village, donde entre animadas conversaciones comemos un poco para reponer fuerzas después de tantas emociones.

Faltan escasos minutos para el inicio del concierto y cada uno se dirige a sus localidades. Estamos en platea y parece un buena zona, tal y como podremos comprobar durante el concierto.

Son las 10 de la noche. El recinto está lleno a rebosar con un gran ambiente y la temperatura es agradable. Los músicos van saliendo al escenario colocándose en su sitio, y de golpe empieza a sonar la versión original de Surfin’. Mike y Bruce hacen su aparición por la parte izquierda del escenario ante el fervor de las gradas, alentadas aún más por el propio Bruce levantando las manos hacia arriba.
Empieza el concierto…..

Desde la platea el sonido es espectacular con todas las voces claramente audibles, así como los instrumentos. Mike está en plena forma vocal a pesar de algunas de sus últimas actuaciones donde su voz no sonaba del todo bien.
A destacar los limpios y académicos solos de guitarra de Scott Totten, y la energía que imprime John Cowsill desde la batería.
Bruce se deleita con Disney Girls (ésta muy próxima a la original) y God Only Knows.
Nos sorprende la inclusión de Kokomo tan pronto, ya que generalmente la tocan la penúltima o antepenúltima.
Como sorpresas rara vez tocadas en directo destacan: Cool Head Warm Heart, The Ballad Of Ole' Betsy ó Heroes And Villains.

El concierto empezó a las 22:00 y se acabó a las 23:50.

Suenan las ultimas notas de Fun Fun Fun. Se acaba el concierto mientras la banda saluda al publico. Nos reunimos todos en la zona de pie delante del escenario y comentamos las primeras impresiones del concierto haciéndonos algunas fotos de grupo. Decidimos ir a la entrada del backstage. Justo al llegar sale Mike mientras una auténtica avalancha de gente se agolpa encima suyo. Los miembros de la organización meten a Mike como pueden dentro del conche y éste arranca rápidamente. Seguimos haciendo guardia mientras la gente se va dispersando. Bruce y los demás músicos van subiendo a la furgoneta. Un miembro de la organización cierra la puerta lateral, pero acto seguido un par de tipos algo bebidos la abren pidiendo a gritos la salida de Bruce para hacerse una foto. Rápidamente aparece Tim, que si bien por la tarde hacía de fotógrafo improvisado, ahora hace las veces de guardaespaldas de Bruce. La furgoneta arranca con dirección al hotel. Los únicos que no se han ido con el resto de la expedición son Christian y su espectacular novia Mina, con quien nos haremos unos fotos de recuerdo.

Ya es más de la una de la madrugada y estamos cansados de una día realmente mágico, pero a la vez agotador. Nos despedimos. Con algunos nos veremos al día siguiente para cenar y hacer un karaoke. Otros por el contrario volverán a sus casas al día siguiente por mañana. Como siempre que nos reunimos ha sido un auténtico placer. Esperamos que pronto nos podamos volver a reunir con motivo de un nuevo concierto.

En un viaje relampago a Londres Brian Wilson actuó en dos programas de la BBC, ademas de dar varias entrevistas en la radio.

El día 10 actuó en directo en el programa "The One Show", donde ademas de ser entrevistado interpretó unas versiones cortas de "California Girls" y "In My Room".

El mismo día 10 grabó su actuación en el programa "Later with Jools Holland", donde interpretó los siguientes temas: "California Girls", "They Can't Take That Away From Me", "Good Vibrations" y "God Only Knows". El programa fue emitido el pasado viernes día 13 en la BBC 2.

Bueno pues después de muchos rumores parece que por fin este año tendremos el "Smile". En la edición de esta semana de la revista "Billboard" sale la noticia mas esperada por los fans desde hace décadas. Noticia que a falta de un comunicado de Capitol o del propio grupo se ha dado por oficial.

Saldrá a la venta una edición de 2 CDs, una edición para descargar en Itunes, y una edición de lujo con 4 CDs, 2 LPs en vinilo, 2 Singles en vinilo, y un libro de 60 paginas escrito por Domenic Priore.

Despues de mucho rumores de reunión, ayer Al Jardine confirmo que este próximo sabado se unirá a Mike y Bruce en un concierto de celebración del centerario del nacimiento de Ronald Reagan. Tambien decía que Mike habia invitado al concierto a Brian.... veremos...

Este es el comunicado de Al:

"The Beach Boys will be performing this Saturday (Feb 5) at A Concert for America – A Tribute to Ronald Reagan. We played at President Reagan's 2nd inaugural and thought it would be appropriate to honor him for his centennial birthday celebration in light of our anniversary coming up later this year. Brian and I were both invited by Mike...more details soon on how you can watch this concert online!"

El concierto será muy reducido, unos 20 minutos, ya que actuaran mas artistas. se podrá ver por webcast.

Para acabar, un comentatio sobre el tema del propio Bruce en Beach Boys Britain:

"We're playing an extremely short set Saturday night (20 minutes) but the program is two hours long.
I'm glad we were asked to be there and it will be fun to play with Al. I hope Brian is part of this event......"

Ahí va mi crónica del concierto de Cap Roig, espero que os guste.

Banda de acompañamiento:

Scott Totten (guitarra, voz)
Randell Kirsch (bajo, voz)
John Cowsill (batería, percusión, voz)
Tim Bonhomme (teclados, voz)
Christian Love (guitarra rítmica y acústica, voz)

Nos reunimos todos el día del concierto en la playa de Port Bo de Calella, y cuando se acercó la hora de comer decidimos ir a un sitio baratito en la carretera que cruza la localidad y que va directa a los jardines donde iba a tener lugar el concierto. Casi en el momento del postre, vimos entrar a una gente de aspecto sospechoso con acreditaciones y pudimos distinguir a John Cowsill, el batería de la banda. En ese momento pensamos que la suerte estaba de nuestro lado, ya que creíamos que en cualquier momento llegaría el resto de la banda, pero no sucedió así. Nos tuvimos que conformar con cruzar unas palabras con John mientras se comía su ensalada y no pudimos sacarle información útil sobre dónde podríamos encontrar a Mike y Bruce antes del concierto. No hubo suerte.
Así que nos dirijimos a la zona de la playa a ver si por algún casual estaban comiendo en alguno de los restaurantes, donde por cierto, no habrían desentonado entre la gente que predominaba en las terrazas con vistas al mar de la Costa Brava. Tampoco hubo suerte.
Ya por la tarde, mientras tomábamos unos refrescos en la terraza de un conocido hotel situado a lo alto de uno de los acantilados, recibo un mensaje vía Facebook de Scott Totten diciendo que llegarían a Cap Roig a las 7 de la tarde para hacer las pruebas de sonido y luego cenar antes del concierto. Me buscaría cuando estuviera por allí.
Poco antes de las 7 en punto estábamos haciendo guardia en la puerta de los jardines, donde nos encontramos con una vigilancia que ni en la mismísima Alcatraz. Allí nos esperaba Juan con su camiseta de Pet Sounds, y a las 7 en punto llegó el autobús con toda la banda, excepto Mike creemos. Bruce nos hizo una foto desde su asiento.
Mientras esperábamos en la cola hasta la apertura de puertas a las 8, disfrutamos contándonos nuestras batallitas en el a veces incomprendido mundo de los Beach Boys.
Escuchando el soundcheck en la lejanía, distinguimos Disney Girls y The Warmth Of The Sun, esperando que alguna de ellas acabara en el setlist final.
Una vez entramos al recinto y después de tomarnos el refresco de rigor; flanqueado por una de las chicas de la organización, nos encontramos con Bruce el cual hizo caso omiso de nuestras peticiones de fotos y autógrafos, hasta que desapareció. Seguíamos sin tener suerte.
Hasta que me encontré con Scott Totten, también acompañado por personal de la organización.
- ¡¡Scott, soy Julio, del Facebook!!
A partir de aquí nuestra suerte cambió. Nos citó al cabo de una hora para que le diera tiempo a cenar y entonces fue cuando apareció con Bruce, ya dispuesto a atendernos.
Fotos, firmas y un poco de chapurreo spanglish fue todo lo que nos dió tiempo a sacarle, a parte de un pequeño fragmento de una canción que no reconocí cuando alguien le nombró el 'Smile'. Empezó a cantar una canción con la letra 'Smile when you...' Bastante extraño por cierto.
Nos faltaba Mike, pero ya se hizo misión imposible conforme se acercaba la hora del concierto y se iba llenando todo de gente cada vez más. Tendríamos que esperar a que finalizara.

El concierto comenzó a las 22:10 con un lleno absoluto en las gradas y público de todo tipo.
La banda sonó muy ensayada y se notó que era el último concierto de la gira europea (luego nos enteramos de que se había cancelado el concierto de Vasteras, Suecia al día siguiente); tuvimos suerte en ese sentido, ya que nos encontramos con un Mike muy hablador (incluso en castellano), y un Bruce con buena voz y muy participativo en todos los aspectos.

Empezamos con el setlist: (39 canciones)

Surfin' - el concierto empezó con 30 segundos del Surfin' original como introducción, la cual empalman con una corta versión en directo.
Catch A Wave - Mike a la voz solista e introducción de Tim Bonhomme a los teclados.
Hawaii - cantada por Mike y Randell Kirsch en el falsette.
Little Honda - con el 'GO' de introducción y Mike cantando a la misma velocidad que en la grabación original.
Do It Again - Mike.
Surf City - Mike.
Surfin' Safari - Mike.
Estas 7 canciones las tocaron de un tirón, amenazando luego Mike con no cantar más canciones de surf en toda la noche. Una forma frenética de empezar el concierto. Mike pidió disculpas por no saber hablar en catalán y por haber tocado estas 7 canciones al principio, ya que nadie se había levantado aún a bailar, seguramente porque los asientos no eran baratos. Se escuchó algún grito de ¡¡ESPAÑA!! por parte de algún miembro de la banda. Bruce cantó unos segundos de I Write The Songs.
Surfer Girl - toda la banda a los coros y Bruce en el bridge.
Getcha Back - Christian Love a la voz solista y Randell en el falsette. Una de mis favoritas para escuchar en directo.
Darlin' - la primera de varias canciones cantadas por John Cowsill mientras toca la batería. Yo no soy músico y realmente lo veo como algo bastante difícil de conseguir sin perder el ritmo...
Good To My Baby - una de las sorpresas de la noche con un excelente trabajo de Scott Totten a la guitarra.
Bluebirds Over The Mountain - una rareza en directo y de nuevo Scott Totten luciéndose en el solo de guitarra, casi rozando el rock duro al final. Sublime.
Cottonfields - de nuevo John Cowsill cantando desde la batería.
Why Do Fools Fall In Love - excelentes armonías vocales de la banda y una voz solista muy conseguida por parte de Randell.
When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) - Mike en la voz solista y Randell al falsette.
Do You Wanna Dance - la primera canción en la que todos se levantaron de las sillas para bailar, y la primera de la noche que cantó Bruce. Magnífico solo de guitarra de Scott. Dedicada a Dennis.
In My Room - toda la banda a las voces y Mike en el bridge.
Don't Worry Baby - Randell Kirsch en la voz solista y falsette. Correcto y académico.
Little Deuce Coupe-409-Shut Down-I Get Around - el Car Medley con Mike con el público a sus pies.
Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring - introducida como 'Primavera' por Mike. Acappella y otra sorpresa en el concierto. Quitaba la respiración.
Disney Girls - exhibición de Bruce en esta canción y la siguiente. Un auténtico lujo y una suerte poder escuchar esta canción en directo cantada por el músico que la compuso.
God Only Knows - sentida interpretación de Bruce dedicada a Carl.
Good Vibrations - Christian cantando a su estilo e intentando sonar como Carl.
Sail On Sailor - John Cowsill a la voz solista desde la batería.
California Dreamin' - John Cowsill y Christian alternando voces.
Then I Kissed Her - Christian.
California Girls - magnífica introducción de guitarra, y fue muy raro que la gente no reconociera la canción hasta que Mike no se puso a cantar!! Hacia el final Bruce cantó 'I wish they all could be Spanish Girls'
Sloop John B - Mike y Bruce.
Wouldn't It Be Nice - Randell Kirsch voz solista y Mike en el bridge.
Help Me Rhonda - John Cowsill desde la batería. Solo de piano de Tim Bonhomme.
Rock'n'Roll Music - Mike en su vertiente más rockera y buena guitarra de Scott.
Barbara Ann - con estas últimas canciones ya estaba todo el público fuera de las sillas cantando y bailando. Mike y Bruce se marcaron un bailecito de cara a la galería en el riff de guitarra.
Surfin' USA - Mike a la voz, Tim al órgano y Scott luciéndose a la guitarra una vez más.

Ahora vienen los bises con:
Kokomo (Spanish Version) - Mike intentó cantar la versión en castellano de 1989 pero se quedó en el primer verso; el resto ya lo cantó en inglés. De todas formas una auténtica rareza cantada en directo. Christian en la parte vocal de Carl.
Summertime Blues - versión de Eddie Cochran que versionearon los Beach Boys en el 62 y más tarde Mike en el 82 con Adrian Baker. Una muestra del sonido y potencial que puede alcanzar la banda en directo empleándose a fondo cada uno de los miembros.
Fun Fun Fun - la canción final con todo el público volcado. Scott, Mike, Bruce y Randell se colocan al frente del escenario en la introducción de guitarra.

A rasgos generales, decir que Mike tenía casi la misma voz de siempre; puede defender el repertorio con solvencia, y por muchos años esperemos. Bruce muy participativo y haciendo coros, cantando la voz solista en tres canciones y tocando los teclados; prácticamente como un músico más de la banda.

Al finalizar el concierto nos quedamos esperando a Mike con bastante más gente alrededor y separados por guardias y un cordón de seguridad. Afortunadamente Scott se portó muy bien otra vez y consiguió que Mike nos firmara los programas del festival y que se hiciera algunas fotos aunque de forma rápida.
De momento todas las críticas han sido positivas en los distintos medios, tanto en televisión como en periódicos, digitales o en papel. Esperemos que esto sirva para que haya más conciertos en el futuro, ya que tres visitas a España en 20 años me parece un bagaje muy pobre para un grupo como Los Beach Boys.
He asistido a tres conciertos de ellos y este ha sido de lejos el mejor, en cuanto a selección de canciones, calidad de sonido e interpretación. Los vi muy ensayados y muy profesionales.

Nada más. Me consta que el concierto de Tenerife fue casi igual que el de Cap Roig pero sin 'Disney Girls' ni 'Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring' pero con 'Warmth Of The Sun'. Si alguien lo puede corroborar o poner el setlist bienvenido será.

As The Beach Boys approach the 2011-2012 touring season, which will mark their 50th anniversary as a band, speculation continues to grow among fans and media as to reunion possibilities among all the original surviving members. In response to recent stories Mike Love had the following comments: “The Beach Boys continue to tour approximately 150 shows a year in multiple countries. At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour. He has new solo projects on the horizon and I wish him love and success. We have had some discussions of writing and possibly recording together, but nothing has been planned. I, as I’m sure he is, am proud and honored that The Beach Boys music has endured these 50 years, but felt the need to clarify that there are no current 'reunion' tour plans.”

Al Jardine's "A Postcard From California" will be
release exclusively on iTunes, Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Jardine, a founding member of the legendary Beach Boys, has been
working on the new album over the last few years. He will
be joined by some very special guests on this disc including his
former band-mates Brian Wilson, Mike Love, David Marks, Bruce Johnston,
his his two sons Matt and Adam Jardine, as well as Steve Miller,
Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell of America, David Crosby, Neil Young,
Glen Campbell, Flea, Scott Mathews, Norton Buffalo Alec Baldwin
and more...

Jardine has said that the album will touch upon California's history,
climate and energy problems as well as various ecological topics. It also
revisits his #1 hit with the Beach Boys, "Help Me Rhonda" with additional
vocals by Steve Miller. A video of the song is posted on his web site,
www.AlJardine.com.

One of the songs, "Don't Fight The Sea" was recorded in the late 70s/80 for
a proposed environmentally themed solo album between Jardine and Mike Love,
but was never completed. Though the song was not intended for the Beach Boys, the guys were, nevertheless, happy to lend their voices to it.
It is a timely theme in this year of the Gulf oil spill, and global warming.

Throughout the years, Jardine has written and produced most of the
ecological and social-themed songs for Beach Boys albums, including
the "California Saga" suite from the group's 1973 Holland album,
"Don't Go Near the Water" and "Lookin' At Tomorrow."

Also appearing as a special guest in an impromptu video is actor Alec Baldwin,
who currently stars as Jack Donaghy on the hit NBC sitcom 30 Rock. On the track,
“Tidepool Interlude,” Baldwin is seen reading a moving tribute to California and its
natural beauty written by Stephen John Kalinich as Jardine produces the session.
The video will also be released on Jardine's web site and YouTube Tuesday, June 29.

Mike Love says that a new Beach Boys retrospective is in the works for PBS' American Masters series in commemoration of the band's 50th anniversary which falls in 2011.

Love says that all eras of the band's history will be represented, with the principle bandmembers -- Love, Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Bruce Johnston -- being featured through new and archival interviews and footage: "Well, I think the PBS special is absolutely going to happen, because there's so much existing footage. And it just entails some really nice interviews with the guys and culling stuff from the past. You get Carl (Wilson) involved there and Dennis (Wilson) involved and David Marks (laughs), y'know? So there's a lot of. . . I think there's a lot of -- in fact there is some dialogue with one of the producers at PBS and the American Masters program is definitely something, I think, should be done and will be done."

When asked about the program and the 50th anniversary being the springboard for the first attempted collaboration with cousin Brian Wilson in 15 years, Love -- as always -- remains open and willing for the legendary team to reunite: "The thing is with Brian, he's been doing a solo kind of deal for the last, oh, maybe 10 years now. But with Brian and myself, I honestly believe that we go back so far it transcends or goes beyond any of the dubious history -- y'know the water that's going over the dam in the last 20, 30 years or so. And when we are able to get together without any distractions, his abilities and my abilities are able to compliment each other pretty darn well -- as evidenced by all of the hits and great music we've done together."

When pressed about the possibility of the 50th anniversary celebrations being built around new Wilson-Love songs rather than solely an oldies show with the band's survivors, Love said: "Y'know, I have a very positive attitude towards getting together with Brian. And there have been some negative things that have gone on between us, but they weren't really between us, they were out of the control of each of us, so those things that were points of contention are in the past. So there's nothing but -- as far as I'm concerned -- the sky's the limit and very open to what you're suggesting."

There's been no official word on whether plans are in motion for the 50th anniversary reunion shows which have been previously mentioned by Love. Although the main players of a proposed reunion would be based around the Beach Boys' '60s lineups, Love was very open to '70s members Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar also participating.

Early industry rumors suggested that the Beach Boys' 50th anniversary might be a combination of both American Masters and Great Performances, combining both a new documentary with a live show of some sort.

Brian Wilson last performed with the Beach Boys in 1996. Carl Wilson died in 1998, Al Jardine was forced out of the band the same year. Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983.

The Beach Boys' company Brother Records Inc. (BRI), was formed in 1967 and is owned and controlled by Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and the estate of the late Carl Wilson. Shortly after co-founder Dennis Wilson's death in 1983, his estate sold his shares back to the band to repay loans.

Mike Love, who continues to tour with Bruce Johnston, was granted the exclusive license by BRI to tour under the Beach Boys name. Although he is the only partner in the group out on the road, Brian Wilson, Jardine, and Carl Wilson's estate receive a percentage from each Beach Boys tour.

David Marks, who began making music with the Wilsons as a pre-teen, was a member of the Beach Boys from 1961 to 1963 and one of the five names on the band's original contract to Capitol Records. In 1990 Marks contributed to Brian Wilson's unreleased second solo album Sweet Insanity. Marks rejoined the Beach Boys in 1997 and stayed for three years. He occasionally sits in with the touring version of the Beach Boys, and now regularly appears in concert with fellow Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardine.

Guitarist Blondie Chaplin has been a part of the Rolling Stones' touring band since 1997, and Ricky Fataar now drums for Bonnie Raitt, among others.

Extraño picture disc que compre la semana pasada en la "VIII Fira Internacional del Disc de Barcelona", presuntamente se trata de un test pressing. En una cara sale esta foto de los Beach Boys, y en la otra una de los Blues Brothers. Lo raro del asunto es que las canciones del disco son de Bob Dylan y The Band. Una curiosidad.

Burbank, CA – October 8, 2009 - Two giants of popular entertainment have come together as Brian Wilson, the pioneering musical genius who co-founded the Beach Boys and wrote many of the band's greatest hits, has signed with Walt Disney Records.

In the months ahead, Wilson will record two new solo albums for the label's Disney Pearl imprint, including one featuring covers of classic songs by great American songwriters, George and Ira Gershwin. For that recording, the Gershwin estate has given Wilson access to rare, unfinished pieces of music by George Gershwin, with which he will craft collaborative compositions unlike anything the world has seen.

He will follow that with an album of classic Disney songs, which the artist promises to “Brian-ize” with his trademark vocal stacks and unique arrangements. Release dates for each album have yet to be determined.

Said David Agnew, Walt Disney Records president and general manager of the Disney Music Group, “We are honored to be in business with one of the greatest musical artists of all time. It is impossible to overstate the impact Brian has had on contemporary music and culture -- it has been nothing less than profound. “I've always tried to make music that entertained people,” Wilson said. “I also wanted my music to last, to be able to speak to any generation. Thankfully, nearly 50 years since the Beach Boys were born, that seems to have come true. Now, a new musical chapter begins for me, and teaming up with Disney means it's going to be a chapter to remember. I promise.”

Wilson chose to record George and Ira Gershwin songs because he considers the late composers of classics like “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Summertime” as a critical influence on him. “I've always loved George Gershwin. The earliest music I remember hearing is 'Rhapsody in Blue,'” says Wilson, referring to Gershwin's groundbreaking 1924 orchestral piece. “Along with Irving Berlin, Gershwin basically invented the popular song, but he did something more. He had a gift for melody that nobody has ever equaled yet his music is timeless and always accessible. This is the most spiritual project I've ever worked on.”

Said Todd Gershwin (George Gershwin estate) and Michael Owen (Ira Gershwin estate): “The Gershwin families are delighted that the legendary musician Brian Wilson has chosen to record a collection of George and Ira Gershwin songs for his next project. Like Gershwin, Brian Wilson is one of the great composers of the last 100 years. The Southern California native, along with his brothers, a cousin and a friend, formed the Beach Boys while still in his teens. With Wilson as chief songwriter and arranger, the band not only enjoyed dozens of hits, but changed music forever thanks to Brian's innovative melodies and harmonies. Songs like “I Get Around,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “California Girls,” “Wouldn't It Be Nice,” and the #1 smash “Good Vibrations” remain indispensable staples in the rock 'n' roll canon. The band's “Pet Sounds” (1966) is regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Tras el concierto del pasado dia 27 en "L.A. County Fair", en Pomona, CA, Bruce recordo en el foro de "Beach Boys Britain" su debut en este mismo escenarioa hace la friolera de 51 años, en 1958 como musico acompañante del mitico Ritchie Valens.

Este es el comentario de Bruce:

This past Sunday we played a sold out Beach Boys concert at the LA County Fair in Pomona, California. It was a great 'CD Juke Box" ninety minute kind of performance (unlike the always wonderful/just under three hours England-Scotland-Wales-Ireland concerts that we occasionally do). The band played & sang admirably and it was a fun night for all of us. This coming Sunday we get to perform in Little Rock, Arkansas with their symphony orchestra. I always love our different worldwide concert configurations. We even have six symphony orchestra concerts booked in Australia in early 2010.

Now here's why I posted: Fifty-one summers ago I played the same fair back in September 1958 as a non-singing piano playing musician in a house/backup band. We played indoors in some sort of large exposition hall. I think the fair was called the Pomona Fair back then but it was a 'sold out' performance (98 cents per ticket!!!) sponsored by the number one AM radio station in Los Angeles: KFWB (channel 98...color radio!!)...The artists on the bill were: Johnny Cash, The Teddy Bears, The Kingston Trio (just as their recording of "Tom Dooley" was rapidly climbing the US charts), The Billy Vaughn Orchestra, Jan & Arnie, Johnny Burnette, and Ritchie Valens ("Come On, Let's Go" was his first 'regional' hit in the fall of 1958). I was in the small house band backing up Ritchie most of the summer and I guess that was part of my first step into the 'live' part of the music business. FYI: Sandy Nelson on drums in our band.

The biggest thrill for sixteen year old me was to be able to talk to all these artists backstage besides being on stage myself (actually, barely on stage!!).

Taylor Mills is back. After recording and touring the globe with music legend Brian Wilson and releasing her critically acclaimed 2007 debut, "Lullagoodbye" she returns with her alluring and unforgettable sophomore effort, "Under The Surface." No doubt you've heard her strong yet disciplined emotional vocals and this exceptional collection of new songs is another testament to her musical prowess.

Mills has spent the better part of ten years in Brian Wilson's band, called by Sir Paul McCartney as "The best touring band in the world. Period." She now returns with the same team that produced "Lullagoodbye" which critics called "a stunning and thrilling pleasure" and "superior sunshine pop/rock." As Mills explains, "Working with Scott Bennett (band mate in Brian Wilson's band, co producer) and Todd Sucherman (Mills' husband, co producer and drummer for the platinum selling STYX) is such a creative joy. It just feels like everything is in the right place and it makes the process of making music exciting and rewarding. Hopefully that spirit is passed along to the listener."

"Under The Surface" is her new release for 2009 and like her previous effort runs a gamut of emotions with lyrical and aural scenery that becomes more intriguing with every listen. "I think records that grow on you over multiple plays are the ones that ultimately mean more to you over the years. I know I feel that way. You have to work for it in a sense because something that is 'instantly catchy' can often be shallow or become boring quickly." Mills continues, " There's something special about hearing a song for the fourth or fifth time and realizing that you are falling in love with that song. It's almost a microcosmic feeling of actually falling in love with a slow burn."

Perhaps this gives us an insight to the album's title. "Well, perhaps" she explains. "It's also about various conflicts that people deal with regularly. Conflicts with love, self, relationships, loss, dreams and ambitions. And just under the surface of the facade we show people in daily life there could be issues brewing that need to be dealt with----and these are some of the issues that the characters in the songs have to face and ultimately overcome."

With songs mostly penned by collaborator Scott Bennett, "Under The Surface" also includes a song by long time friend and ex Falling Wallendas band-mate Allen Keller as well as a remake of "I Wanna Stay Home" by the Beach Boys influenced band "Jellyfish." Keller's contribution, "St. Louis Misery" is a heart aching confession of adultery sweetly sung by Mills. "Melody" has the story of an aging singer seeing the spotlight drift away and contains the thought, "dreams don't age gracefully." Taylor is an emotional powerhouse on "Kiss My Soul" and "Best Intentions" but never flaunts her chops instead using them at the perfect time for an emotional swell. The collection's most upbeat moment comes with the uptempo "Living Room" co written by Bennett and Drake Bell, from the popular Nickelodeon show "Josh and Drake." "If We Let Go" is a sultry, smokey duet between Mills and Bennett that features Brian Wilson band mate Probyn Gregory on Flugelhorn and Sucherman's jazzy touch on the drums."

This might be a slightly mellower, more piano driven record than the last one" Mills explains. "The whole creative process was much faster this time due to working in the holes of our touring schedule and the fact we have our own studio now." "Under The Surface" is another showcase for Mills' range as singer/storyteller and lets collaborators Bennett and Sucherman shine as well.

Scott Bennett has spent his tenure in Brian Wilson's band along side Taylor Mills and has worked on various TV shows and other musical projects. In 2008 he co-wrote and co-produced Brian Wilson's "That Lucky Old Sun" which included Taylor's talents as well as Sucherman on drums. The release received 4 starts in Rolling Stone and Mojo magazines. Todd Sucherman continues to hold the drum chair in the band STYX and still makes time for other recording and performing duties. In the 2009 Modern Drummer magazine reader's poll he was voted #1 rock drummer and his dvd "Methods and Mechanics" which featured songs from Lullagoodbye was voted #1 instructional DVD.

Can we look forward to more from Mills in the near future? "I hope so but for now my commitment is to Brian and the band. We'll be touring some more this year and it's an honor to perform that music with him--- someone who's one of the 20th century's greatest composers. But with "Under The Surface" I feel like this record is where I'm at now and we'll take our time before embarking on another effort. I'm proud of this record. I feel nothing on it is dated or kitschy. Ultimately at the end of the day we have to be proud of what we've done and that's what matters most."

"Under The Surface" is another stunning accomplishment from Taylor Mills and her crew, sure to charm and engage listeners with that emotional slow burn she desires. We said hello to Taylor with "Lullagoodbye" and now we get a deeper, more intense look at her "Under The Surface."

The Beatles aren't the only '60s icons preserving their legendary catalogue and vault; the Beach Boys' team is hard at work cataloging the thousands of tapes which make up their archive. The team -- chief archivist Alan Boyd and producer/engineer Mark Linett -- has recently collected all of the known elements of the band's unfinished 1967 album Smile, and have now uncovered the multi-tracks for the Beach Boys' two historic concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall on November 23rd, 1972.

For years, only half of one of the shows has been available in pristine stereo on the underground market. Boyd says that the band's company Brother Records is in possession of all of the multi-track masters of the shows, and is now collecting appropriate film and video footage which could be included on a potential project.

Elvis Costello saw the Beach Boys six months prior to the Carnegie Hall show in his then-hometown of Liverpool, and was amazed at how the band's current image and musicality transcended their iconic '60s image: "I saw the Beach Boys in Liverpool at the Liverpool Empire. That was a very different experience. They were in that... one of the periods, although Carl and Dennis (Wilson) were singing in the band, Brian (Wilson) wasn't with them, but the Surf's Up album and the beautiful Carl And The Passions album were out -- and Holland -- those records were out. Dennis sang an extraordinary version of "Cuddle Up" at that gig, which I'll never forget. That was an incredible thing to see; because although the main writer wasn't present, you realize that they had reclaimed themselves as a creative band away from the cliched idea of these guys that sing these car songs and dress in stripey shirts."

The songs performed by the Beach Boys at Carnegie Hall: "Sloop John B.," "You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone," "Leaving This Town," "Darlin'," "Only With You," "Heroes And Villains," "Long Promised Road," "Don't Worry Baby," "Student Demonstration Time," "I Get Around," "Marcella," "California Saga," "Help Me, Rhonda," "Medley: Wonderful/Don't Worry Bill," "God Only Knows," "Do It Again," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Wild Honey," "Good Vibrations," "Surfin' U.S.A," "Fun, Fun, Fun," and "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

The official members of the Beach Boys at the time were Dennis and Carl Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricky Fataar.

Alan Boyd says that his and Linett's primary public duties for the Beach Boys are locating the masters to the band's earlier work, and remixing them into modern stereo mixes for the band's numerous career-spanning compilations: "The fans and the public at large really seem to like these new stereo mixes, and that was really apparent when Mark did Pet Sounds in 1997. And the reaction to that is so strong that he started looking at other albums and other tracks, so every time we have the opportunity -- we did a lot of this on the Hawthorne record -- we've been going back and doing that, 'cause there's so much pressure brought to bear, y'know, in the market, for things to be in stereo."

Boyd and Linett -- both Grammy nominees -- have collaborated on such recent Beach Boys collections as Endless Harmony, Hawthorne, CA, Good Timin': Live At Knebworth England 1980, The Warmth Of The Sun, The Original U.S. Singles Collection The Capitol Years 1962-1965 box set, and the recently released Summer Love Songs.

Linett is also known for his work with Brian Wilson over the past two decades -- including the revamping of the entire Beach Boys' catalogue beginning in the late 1980's. Linett's work on 2004's Brian Wilson Presents Smile was nominated for a Grammy for Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
